Spend the year in beautiful South Lake Tahoe serving at the Supervisor’s 
Office, Heavenly Mountain Resort, Taylor Creek Visitor Center, Tallac 
Historic Site, Explore Tahoe Visitor Center, and various field sites. Work 
alongside Forest Service staff to provide interpretive programming and 
visitor services. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in 
the field of interpretation at one of the nations premiere visitor 
destinations. This is a full time position requiring 40 hours per week, 
and may include weekends and holidays. 

Compensation:
This is an AmeriCorps position, and candidates will receive a living 
stipend of $18,600 for the season. This is not an hourly wage or a salary 
and is paid to members bi-monthly throughout the entire year. Upon 
completion of AmeriCorps service, members shall receive an additional 
education award in the amount of $5,350 that can be used for paying off 
student loans, or paying tuition for a Title IV accredited college.

Primary Scope of Responsibilities:
The position will be an integral part of the LTBMU Recreation program. 
Throughout the year, this position will be active in the development and 
implementation of the various aspects of the overall program including the 
following:

- Special Uses Administration program-  manages use and occupancy of the 
LTBMU by businesses and organizations such as Heavenly Mountain Resort, 
Zephyr Cove Resort, Outfitters and Guides, events, and Recreation 
Residences.  This position will assist with inspections, billings, 
administrative duties, clerical work, and document review.
- Winter Trek program- provides winter related activities for students and 
their teachers. 
- Ski with a ranger program- guides visitors over the snow on the mountain 
by ski and snowboard.  
- Summer Interpretive Programs- includes preparing and conducting a 
variety of interpretive programs for forest visitors and school groups 
including evening amphitheater programs, conservation education programs 
(school based), living history programs, guided walks, patio talks, and 
roving interpretation. 
- Fall Kokanee salmon conservation education program- Prepares and 
conducts a variety of environmental education activities which interpret 
the annual Kokanee Salmon spawning run. 
- Develops various interpretive projects including displays, exhibits, and 
signage.

Preferred Qualifications
- B.S. in ecology, natural resources sciences or other related degree.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.
Computer literacy.
- Proven ability to work with the public including groups.
- Must be able snowshoe and downhill ski or snowboard in order to conduct 
winter interpretive programs.
- Interest and desire to develop and conduct a wide variety of educational 
programs.
- Ability to multi-task and work with a diverse group of volunteers, staff 
members, and children.

AmeriCorps Qualifications:
To qualify, you must be at least 17 years of age and a US citizen that has 
received a high school diploma or GED (or be willing to achieve this 
before using education award). All offers of employment are conditional 
upon completion of an acceptable check of the National Sex Offender Public 
Registry.
