I recently found an equation for estimating species richness [S=n+((n-1/n)^k)], but after discussing the matter with other members of my research group, realized that none of us knew the basis for the equation. I was wondering if any of you knew the origin and/or basis for this particular equation in estimating species richness. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
