The Chagrin River Watershed Partners, Inc. (CRWP) is seeking applicants for the 
position of Associate Director.  

CRWP is a non-profit organization that provides technical assistance to its 
Members and develops cost effective, prevention-focused solutions to minimize 
new, and address current, natural resource management problems as communities 
grow.  CRWP is recognized statewide as a leader in locally driven watershed 
management that protects critical parcels, promotes innovative stormwater 
management practices, and improves the development of those areas that will be 
developed or redeveloped.  CRWP's work, including model codes and technical 
guidance for local communities on riparian setbacks and comprehensive storm 
water management, is in use throughout Northeast Ohio.  CRWP's 2009 annual

located in historic downtown Willoughby, Ohio.

The Associate Director is a full-time employee and will work with the Executive 
Director to provide direct services to CRWP Members on flood control, erosion 
control, and other land use issues, including updating comprehensive plans, 
adopting ordinances, and implementing NPDES Phase II Storm Water Management 
Programs.  The Associate Director must be a self starter and think creatively 
about environmental conditions and problems and identify potential solutions.  


Chagrin River Watershed Partners, Inc.

q       Nationally recognized watershed organization formed by the communities, 
counties, and park districts in the Chagrin watershed to provide direct 
one-on-one assistance to Member law directors, engineers, planners, and other 
staff with flood control, erosion control, and other natural resource 
management issues related to land use change.

 

q       Representing 36 communities and 94% of watershed cities, villages, 
townships, counties, and park districts in a 265 square mile watershed draining 
to Lake Erie east of Cleveland, Ohio.

 

q       Pilot program for Ohio Lake Erie Commission's Balanced Growth Program, 
resulting in the endorsement of the Chagrin River Watershed Balanced Growth 
Plan.

 

q       Known as a leader in watershed management and in developing technical 
guidance for local communities to facilitate the adoption and implementation of 
local codes and storm water management programs.  

 

q       Programs also include policy research on watershed issues to support 
local decision-making and implementation of best land use practices.  

 

q       Successes include increasing local understanding of flood and erosion 
control issues and the use of low impact development storm water management; 
the adoption of local zoning to limit development near streams and wetlands; 
implementation of numerous stream and wetland restoration projects; and 
significant increase in funding for Member storm water management projects and 
watershed-wide studies of stream and wetland functions.

 

q       Three (3) full time and one (1) part time staff.  



Responsibilities of the Associate Director 
q       Assist local communities in developing, adopting, and implementing CRWP 
model regulations for riparian and wetland setbacks, erosion and sediment 
control, comprehensive stormwater management, and conservation development and 
Best Local Land Use Practices of the Balanced Growth Program.

 

q       Assist with implementation of CRWP and Member community projects 
including watershed planning and research, storm water management, storm water 
retrofit and stream and wetland restoration projects.

 

q       Provide direct services to Members including regulation adoption and 
implementation, site visits, review of development plans, and grant 
applications. 

 

q       Assist with the development and implementation of annual and long-term 
goals and objectives to fulfill CRWP's mission and annually evaluate progress 
in achieving these goals and objectives. 

 

q       Apply for grants for CRWP operational funding as well as Member 
priority projects.

 

Skills and Qualifications of the Associate Director

q       Must be self-motivated, energetic, and demonstrate strong 
organizational and leadership skills.

 

q       Excellent problem solving, presentation, and writing skills.

 

q       Ability to manage multiple projects for both CRWP programs and Member 
priorities. 

 

q       Ability to conduct fieldwork and attend evening meetings on a regular 
basis.

 

q       Master's degree in environmental science/planning, biology, ecology, 
water resources, natural resource management, or related field strongly 
preferred.

 

q       Five (5) years working in watershed management, storm water management, 
environmental policy, or related fields. 

 

q       Experience in grant writing and project management.

 

q       Understanding of laws and policies governing land use and water quality 
management at the local, State, and Federal levels strongly preferred.

 

Salary & Benefits
q       Salary range from $45,000 to $60,000, commensurate with experience.
