The ESA Plant Population Ecology Section (ESA-PPE) board accepts submissions of logos & mottos to represent the ESA-PPE Section.
Goal: The creation of a logo and motto that will help identify the ESA-PPE Section within the ESA annual meetings and before other ecological institutions and international meetings. Participants: Any individual who is a 2010-2011 member of the ESA-PPE Section. If you are not sure whether you are up to date with your dues for the ESA, please contact membership AT esa DOT org <[email protected]>. If you are not sure whether you are up to date with your dues for the ESA PPE Section, email the ESA-PPE Section’s secretary (Rob Salguero-Gomez, salguero AT sas DOT upenn DOT edu <[email protected]>). Conditions: The submitted proposals must adhere to the following requisites: - Submit the materials by December 1st 2010, 6pm EST to salguero AT sas DOT upenn DOT edu with the subject “ESA-PPE Section Logo/Motto Contests”. Attach all files within the same email. - LOGO: the logo must be smaller than 6 Mb and contain a minimum resolution of 600 dpi. As part of the logo, the words “Plant Population Ecology” must appear in a visible manner. The submission must contain one jpg and one pdf version of the logo (total two files of the SAME logo). Together with the logo, please include a max 100 word description (word file) of its meaning. - MOTTO: the motto must be short and catchy. The meaning of the motto must be self-explanatory – i.e., no need to attach explanation for the motto. - Submissions are encouraged to enclose 1 logo + 1 motto, but submissions of only 1 logo or only 1 motto are welcome too (See prize description below). - Successful applications should match the meaning of the logo and/or motto to the goals of the ESA-PPE Section (http://www.esa.org/plantpop/node/211; log-in required). - Only one submission (one logo and/or one motto) per ESA-PPE Section member. Applications that do not adhere to the aforementioned rules will not be considered. Selection process: If necessary, the ESA-PPE Section board will narrow down the number of applications to the top five logos and top five mottos. These will then be presented to the ESA-PPE Section members in the ESA-PPE website, and the membership will decide the winner by an email voting system. The voting period will last for two weeks. The winner will be announced by December 17th 2010. Prize: If the winner is a student (high school through graduate school, both included): Travel Award ($300 for motto, or $300 for logo – if the motto and logo of the same student are selected: still $300) to attend the 2011 ESA annual conference in Austin, TX (http://esa.org/austin/). If the winner is a non-student ESA-PPE Section member: the honor of seeing his/her Logo and Motto represent the Section. The prize will be handed at the ESA-PPE mixer at the 2011 ESA annual meeting in Austin, TX.
