A 24-month post-doctoral opening is available in the Institute of Evolution Science at the University of Montpellier, France, in vegetation modeling, beginning January, 2011. The successful candidate will adapt and apply the vegetation model LPJ-GUESS to the Congo Basin tropical forests. He/she will integrate botanical and lab studies to adapt the model parameterization to the study area, then confront model outputs to field and satellite data already acquired. He/she will eventually assess forest resilience to climate and land-use changes.
Requirements for the position include (1) a Ph.D. in quantitative environmental sciences discipline or related field, for instance meteorology, environmental physics, -biology, or -engineering, (2) a computer programming experience (C++, Fortran). Ecologists with strong mathematical skills and modelers interested in gaining experience with ecological applications are especially encouraged to apply. The research will be relevant to the CoForChange Project (Predicting the effects of global change on forest biodiversity in the Congo Basin, www.coforchange.eu), and implies multidisciplinary collaboration. The position is funded at 30000 - 36000 per year. Applications (cover letter, CV, and contact information for 2 references) should be sent by e-mail to Dr. Charly Favier, [email protected], ISE-M cc061, University Montpellier 2, Montpellier, F-34095. Review of applications will begin October 15, 2010, and continue until the position is filled.
