Postdoctoral Teaching/Research Fellow
Position Available for a Postdoctoral Teaching/Research Fellow in
Environmental Studies with focus on Human
Interactions with the Land.
The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, invites
applications for a two-year postdoctoral teaching and
research fellow in Human Interactions with the Land to begin in the
Fall of 2011. Funded by a grant to the
Associated Colleges of the South from the Andrew W. Mellon
Foundation, this fellowship provides a training
opportunity for a career path in a liberal arts college setting. The
position is 50% teaching (three courses per year)
and 50% research.
We are looking for an interdisciplinary scholar who is engaged in the
study of land use. We are especially
interested in candidates specializing in the areas of Sustainable
Agriculture, Land Conservation, and Social
Forestry, but we will also consider those with interests that
complement our existing strengths such as Planning
and Rural Economic Sustainability. Applicants with persuasive claims
that they have completed the Ph.D. by
June 2011 will be the best candidates for this position.
The Environmental Studies Program at The University of the South is
broadly interdisciplinary. It offers degrees
in Natural Resources and the Environment, Ecology and Biodiversity,
Environmental Chemistry, and
Environmental Policy. A large and diverse group of faculty from
seventeen departments, spanning the arts,
humanities, and social and natural sciences, participate actively in
the program.
The University of the South comprises a highly-ranked College of
Liberal Arts and Sciences and a well-regarded
School of Theology. It is an institution of the Episcopal Church that
welcomes individuals of all backgrounds. It
is located on a striking, 13,000-acre domain on Tennessee's Cumberland Plateau.
