On behalf of Organization for Tropical Studies (OTS) and the Native American
and Pacific Islander Research
Experience (NAPIRE) Program funded by NSF:

The OTS NAPIRE program is searching for Research Mentors for Summer 2011 (June
21 to August 1). Mentors
will receive airfare, station fees, and room and board at the OTS Las Cruces
Biological Station, located near
the Panamanian border of Costa Rica. Research Mentors will be asked to guide
1-3 Native American and
Pacific Island undergraduate students in individual research projects, starting
from their conception to a
written scientific document. This takes an average of 4 hours a day, leaving
ample time for other research and
writing, although the beginning and end can be more time consuming. The Wilson
Botanical Garden and Las
Cruces Biological Station is well equipped with nice living quarters, a big
laboratory, wi-fi, and food is
delicious and healthy. Although NSF grant does not offer economic compensation
to Research Mentors, but
participation can be a gratifying experience that counts as a service activity
to promote diversity in science, an
advantage for applying for NSF funding. More information can be found at
            .
