Dear Ecologgers, I am writing to find suggestions about where to look for funding for conservation and research projects in the rain forests of Peru. I am working with a professor at Umass Amherst, Chris Kilham who teaches a course called the Shaman's Pharmacy. (http://www.medicinehunter.com/shamans-pharmacy-umass-course)
The course involves taking a group of about 15 students deep into the Peruvian Amazon to study of a vast range of medicinal plants in their natural setting. As part of the course, we are hoping to establish a conservation program with the local shamans and herbal experts to document, catalog and preserve the knowledge of the medicinal plants of the rain forest. We are currently looking for any sources of grant or research funding that would be worth pursuing. Thank you for your time and interest, Nathaniel Putnam Medicinal Plant Program Coordinator UMass Amherst
