Description: 
Spend your spring or summer serving as an AmeriCorps member along the 
Truckee River in Reno, NV alongside international volunteers and college 
students from across the country. The crew will be working with two 
researchers on implementing an adaptive management and riparian 
restoration project along the beautiful Truckee River. In partnering with 
the University of Nevada, this project is located on the Universities 
Agricultural Experiment Station, just outside of Reno, Nevada. The project 
will involve the removal of the invasive exotic Lepidium latifolium and 
the restoration of this degraded site to a system of increased ecological 
structure and function. This will involve the installation of in-stream 
bioengineering structures, the use of soil restoration techniques and re-
vegetation, including; pole plantings, reseeding, and the installation of 
potted perennials. Interns will also assist with data collection and 
analysis for long term and short term monitoring. Will learn and apply 
long term and short term range land and riparian monitoring techniques. 
Will learn and apply soil restoration techniques and best management 
practices.

Compensation:
This is an AmeriCorps position, and candidates will receive a living 
stipend of approximately $3,700 for a 450 hour commitment.  This is not an 
hourly wage or a salary and is paid to members bi-monthly throughout the 
entire year. Upon completion of AmeriCorps service members shall receive 
an additional education award in the amount of $1,415 that can be used for 
paying off student loans, or paying tuition for a Title IV accredited 
college. 

Timeline: March 28, 2011 — June 16, 2011 OR May 16, 2011 — August 11, 2011

Duties:
Maintaining a positive and professional attitude at all times while 
providing service; Communicating with agency project staff; Complying with 
both production and quality work standards established by NCC 
administration, crew supervisors and project partners; 

Work Schedule: Crew members serve in the field Mon-Thurs each week for 10-
hour days. Occasionally the crew will travel to Elko for 8 days on and 
this will be followed by 6 days off. 

Training: 
Members will participate in  orientation where they will receive training 
in technical skills related to the specific crew they are placed on. 
Members will also be trained in leave-no-trace  ethics, CPR/First Aid, and 
citizenship topics. 

Qualifications: 
To qualify, you must be over 18 years of age and a US citizen that has 
received a high school diploma or GED.
