NEW ENGLAND BOTANICAL CLUB
GRADUATE STUDENT RESEARCH AWARD

The New England Botanical Club offers each year up to $2,000 total in
support of botanical research to be conducted by graduate students. The
awards are made to stimulate and encourage botanical research on the New
England flora, and to make possible visits to the New England region by
those who would not otherwise be able to do so. It is anticipated that
two awards will be given, although the actual number and amount of
awards will depend on the proposals received.

The awards are given to the graduate student(s) submitting the best
research proposal dealing with systematic botany, biosystematics, plant
ecology, or plant conservation biology. Papers based on the research
funded must acknowledge the NEBC's support. Submission of manuscripts to
the Club's journal, Rhodora, is strongly encouraged.

Applicants must apply electronically by submitting each of the
following: Proposal of no more than three double-spaced pages, written
in a scientific format and with a stated hypothesis; Budget with brief
justification, on a single page; Curriculum vitae (CV); and Literature
cited, on a singe page. The electronic submission (in either MS Word or Rich
Text Format) should be e-mailed to the committee chair (Dr. Julie Richburg,
[email protected]).

In addition, two letters in support of the proposed research, one from
the student's thesis advisor, should be sent directly by the sponsors to
the Graduate Student Research Awards Committee to the committee chair (email
preferred, but also accepted at Dr. Julie Richburg, The Trustees of
Reservations, 193 High Street, Holyoke, MA 01040.

Proposals and supporting letters for the 2011 award must be received no
later than March 1, 2011. The recipient(s) will be notified by April 30,
2011.
