1 to 2 Technicians needed to help in identification of trees and measurement
of habitat structural elements in approximately 60 Oak habitats scattered
throughout the Willamette Valley, OR. Basic training, including use of all
equipment, will be provided during the first 2 weeks. Possibility to shadow
morning bird counts if interested. 

Time frame: May and June 2011. 

Overall Project: To understand how landscape patterns (patch size, proximate
surrounding vegetation cover, nearness to urban areas, e.g.) as well as
vegetation (types of trees, vertical and horizontal diversity, e.g.) affect
bird diversity in Oak habitats in the Willamette Valley. 

Qualifications - Required: Basic tree identification skills; ability to
navigate extremely well with GPS; ability to work long days with some early
morning hours while maintaining enthusiasm and positive attitude; personal
vehicle (gas used for field work will be reimbursed); ability to collect and
record detailed and accurate field data; physically fit with the ability to
hike up to 3-5 miles per day; ability to follow directions and work
independently without direct supervision.

Qualifications - Preferred:  experience identifying trees and/or plants of
the Pacific Northwest. 

Position Description: Positions will require approximately 150-200 hours of
work throughout the season for 105 sample points. Sampling time and schedule
is flexible after training is completed but must be completed within the
months of May and June. Some data entry will be required. 

Salary: small stipend, TBD depending on experience, or course credit.
