I've had the pleasure of being involved in the development of a socially conscious eco-tourist village in Sierra Leone, West Africa, called Tribewanted (http://www.tribewanted.com/). The village is a prime location for classes to stay and study the local culture, environment, and many other topics. I've created the attached promo sheet to give a better idea of the opportunities for study abroad programs.
I have received a grant to return to Sierra Leone and study fish catches, and if anyone is interested in conducting research in Western Africa, I'd suggest seriously considering Tribewanted's village in John Obey as your research location. If you have more questions feel free to email me or the folks at Tribewanted. I hope to see more socially and environmentally conscious travel destinations/community villages become home bases for advancing science and education - it's a definite win/win for the community and the science.
