Research Technician Position Available We seek a technician to assist with a project assessing populations of Yellowcheek Darter (Etheostoma moorei), a species officially proposed for federal listing as an endangered species, a designation that is likely to become final this year. Sampling will take place in the upper Little Red River basin above Greers Ferry Reservoir. In addition, the technician may assist with collection of data on other fish species for a project examining ecological flow response variables, which may form the basis of a framework for producing environmental flow standards throughout Arkansas.
JOB DESCRIPTION: One full-time research position is available. Start date is July 2011 (flexible) and end date is November 2011 (flexible). Salary is $1,250 per month. DUTIES AND QUALIFICATIONS: The technician will be aiding a graduate student both in the field and office. Field sampling will be conducted as part of a team that includes members of the United States Fish and Wildlife Service and other agencies. Field work will involve collecting, identifying, and recording stream fishes, as well as recording environmental variables. Applicants must be able to endure long hours in the field under adverse weather conditions. Applicants must be willing to travel and spend nights away from home. Travel related expenses will be paid. Previous work in streams with stream fishes is desirable, but not required. Office duties may include data entry/collection, maintenance of sampling gear, travel preparations, etc. A positive attitude, strong motivation, and willingness to learn are important. Ability to work well with others as part of a multidisciplinary team is a must.
