Assistant Professor - Quantitative Fisheries Biologist - Auburn University
The Department of Fisheries and Allied
Aquacultures at Auburn University is seeking
candidates for the position of Quantitative
Fisheries Biologist at the rank of Assistant
Professor. The expected start date is August 16,

Responsibilities: This is a nine-month, tenure
track position (75% research, 25% teaching) in
the Department of Fisheries and Allied
Aquacultures at Auburn University
(http://www.ag.auburn.edu/fish/). The salary is
commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The successful individual will develop and
conduct an outstanding nationally recognized
research program in the general area of
quantitative fisheries science with emphases
including innovative and creative approaches to
dynamics of aquatic systems, population dynamics,
sport fish management, stock assessment,
biometry, and assessment of fisheries management
approaches. Results of this research are expected
to be published in the peer-reviewed scientific
literature including leading national and international journals in the field.
The person in this position will be expected to
teach a graduate level course in quantitative
approaches in fisheries and develop at least one
other course in their specialty at the graduate
or undergraduate level based on departmental
needs. In addition, the individual will be
required to successfully direct and advise
students to the completion of MS and PhD degrees.
The successful candidate will work closely with
the Alabama Department of Conservation and
Natural Resources (ADCNR) on issues related to
fisheries management with particular emphasis on
sport fisheries and will report the findings of
this research in required reports, and, where
appropriate, popular magazines or other media and
outreach outlets. The individual will contribute
to the development of sampling procedures,
analysis software, and training opportunities for
ADCNR biologists. The successful applicant should
also seek funding, support, and collaborative
research opportunities with additional sources
including non-governmental organizations, private
industry, and other state and federal agencies.
Service to the department, college, university,
and profession is also expected.
Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include an
earned Ph.D. from an accredited institution in
Fisheries, Biological Sciences, or a related
field by the position start date. The successful
candidate must have documented experience in
research in the area of quantitative fisheries
science resulting in peer-reviewed publications.
The successful candidate should demonstrate
experience with teaching at the university level.
Excellent interpersonal skills are also required
to effectively interact with diverse audiences,
and to work cooperatively with colleagues. The
candidate must demonstrate the ability to
communicate effectively in English. The candidate
selected for the position must be able to meet
eligibility requirements for work in the United
States at the time appointment is scheduled to
begin and continue working legally for the
proposed term of employment. Desired
Qualifications include postdoctoral experience.
Evidence of successful grantsmanship is strongly
desired. Experience with warm-water sport fisheries is also desirable.
