This is a critical moment for the conservation of the Boreal Forest in Quebec. The government of Quebec is in the process of writing legislation for its Plan Nord region which, if implemented as promised, could result in over 140 million acres (600,000 square kilometers) in the North set aside for the protection of biodiversity and natural heritage and safeguarded from industrial development. In order to show our support and hold Premier Jean Charest to his commitment of protecting half of northern Quebec, we have put together a scientist sign-on letter in the hopes of gathering large numbers of signatures from scientists around the world.
