Position Description KBO is currently seeking a Data Manager to lead the Informatics program which provides technical and human resources for effective data input, management, and access in support of KBO programs. We are working to increase capacity for effective informatics that meets organizational and programmatic needs. The primary responsibilities of this position are development and management of a series of databases and an avian data center. Job Duties * Develop and manage a series of databases to support KBO’s research and monitoring projects * Work closely with partners to develop and implement data management procedures * Maintain and improve a geospatial database * Maintain and improve desktop (distributable) and web-based applications for data entry, viewing, and reporting * Ensure tracking, storing, and access to digital data * Manage the integration of internal and external datasets into protocol specific databases * Implement QA/QC procedures and data validation processes * Complete metadata for historic datasets and assure metadata are up to date for current datasets * Provide datasets (to KBO staff and external partners) and assist others in understanding and analysis of data * Format datasets as required by others for reporting or analysis tools * Develop GIS products for data analysis and dissemination * Contribute to the development of web-based data visualizations * Network management and IT support * Contribute program specific goals and objectives to annual planning * Provide input of program budget to Research and Monitoring Director * Provide support for accounting and billing at the program level * May recruit and hire project leads and/or interns * May provide for daily supervision, training, support, and coordination of project leads and/or interns * Ensure timely delivery of project deliverables within the program * Market the avian data center to partners and community * Write grants and acquire contracts to support the avian data center Basic Qualifications The Data Manager must have a combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in the Natural Sciences or Computer Sciences and a minimum of two years of experience managing biological survey datasets. The Program Manager should have experience with avian monitoring techniques, data management, and willingness to work as a team member for a growing non-profit organization. Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Proficient with Microsoft Access for data entry, database management, and data validation tools * Proficient with ArcGIS geodatabases * Additional programming languages (e.g. PHP) and web development are preferable * Experience with avian monitoring methodology and research design is preferable * Experience in personnel management * Ability to develop, implement, track, and manage a budget for the project * Good oral and written communication skills * Ability to represent KBO to partners and the public * Good attention to detail and ability to multi-task in a busy work environment * Must have good organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines * Ability to work with others, both internally and externally * Must provide and maintain own transportation, a valid driver’s license, and meet minimum insurance requirements * Dedication to the Mission and Goals of KBO To apply please send cover letter, resume, and 3 references to Jaime Stephens ([email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>).
