Hello fellow Ecologgers:
I'm about to embark on a SNP genotyping project and the final two platforms
I'm considering are Sequenom and Biomark by Fluidigm. If anyone has used
both or is quite familiar with the platforms (especially with projects
facing low target copy number and mixed genomic samples), I'd really
appreciate advice:

Fluidigm's reaction volumes are on the nanoscale and thus most protocols
recommend preamplification of the target loci. This seems to address a
major concern of mine in that my templates will have low target copy number.
It is largely for this reason I'm leaning toward Fluidigm rather than
Sequenom. On the other hand, Sequenom is well used and has been around for
quite some time; I take comfort in tried-and-true genetic techniques. The
cost to execute my research is fairly similar between the two, but I cannot
afford the time or resources to test both platforms (although, that would be
pretty helpful!).

Please respond to: [email protected]

Thanks,
Katy
