Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce an upcoming professional development workshop:
Advancing Toward Professorship in Biology, Ecology and Earth System Science
(ATP in BEESS)
April 9-11th, 2012
Oregon State University, Corvallis Oregon
The application target date is Dec 5. Applications received after Dec 5
will be considered as space allows.; lodging subsidies are available
See http://atpinbeess.forestry.oregonstate.edu
We welcome applications from early career academic-track scientists working
in biology, ecology, and earth systems science (BEESS) in the Northwest
United States.
The ATP in BEESS workshop is funded by a National Science Foundation ADVANCE
leadership award to George Washington and Gallaudet Universities.
Motivation: In the US, the proportion of female PhD recipients in the
sciences has steadily increased over the past decade; however there is
attrition at each career transition from PhD to full professor. Women may
opt out of academic careers - instead choosing to work in environments that
support the multiple roles that women scientists encompass. The ATP in BEESS
workshop will prepare postdocs and early career scientists to surmount the
unique challenges posed to women in BEES fields and lay the foundations for
fulfilling careers in academia.
Please forward this announcement to interested groups and post the attached

Sincere thanks,
