*Graduate Student Assistantships -- Department of Geography and
Environmental Sustainability, University of Oklahoma*
*Position Description:Two to three *Graduate Assistantships in the
Department of Geography and Environmental Sustainability within the
College of Atmospheric and Geographic Sciences at the University of
Oklahoma. A competitive stipend is offered plus tuition and health.
*Qualifications:* Minimum: BA/BS in Geography, Natural Resources,
Forestry, Ecology, or other Geographic or Remote Sensing-related
science. Experience or background in: Geographic and Remote Sensing
analysis, Image processing software, Geographic Information Systems,
Landscape Ecology, and/or Statistics.
*Responsibilities:*The selected students will participate in the Land
Cover Land Use Change Group at the University of Oklahoma.Potential
projects include (1) Decision support tools for sustainable development
in the southwestern United States; (2) Modeling land cover changes of
the Southern Great Plains in the U.S.; (3) Land use change impacts on
water resources in New Zealand; and (4) Land use change in rural Russia.
*Location:*The University of Oklahoma is located in Norman, about 15
miles south of Oklahoma City. Norman is a college town established in
1889 with a current population of about 111,000 (about 25,000 college
students). The Carnegie Foundation classifies OU as a research
university with "very high research activity".
