Facility and Fleet Manager

Description:
The Great Basin Institute seeks a Facility and Fleet Manager to support our
large fleet of vehicles, hand tools, and chainsaws. The Facility and Fleet
Manager will be in charge of developing and implementing systems to
effectively track and monitor all tools and equipment that are used by
employees of the Great Basin Institute. This person will maintain tools and
vehicles to the best of their ability with the means provided and seek out
professional help when necessary. This person will ensure that all repairs
are completed in a timely manner and that all issues are documented and
responded to appropriately. The Facility and Fleet Manager will also oversee
the drivers training program for the institute and ensure that all drivers
participate in the training. This position requires extensive knowledge of
hand tool maintenance/repair, the ability to work within a budget, and
extensive multitasking. Experience with small engine repair, vehicle
troubleshooting, and databases are desired.

Reports To: GBI Executive Director

Essential Functions and Duties:
•    Track all GBI vehicles and ensure maintenance occurs on a regularly
scheduled basis.
•    Document all incidents, repairs, and maintenance through spreadsheets
and files.
•    Ensure all maintenance costs are documented with receipts.
•    Seek out cost-saving measures for repairs, purchases, and tracking of
equipment and vehicles.
•    Communicate on a regular basis with all GBI drivers and with
administrative staff to ensure tasks are being carried out appropriately and
timely.
•     Supervise one AmeriCorps member as the Logistics Assistant.
•    Implement GBI’s Drivers Training Course.
•    Inventory and monitor all tools and equipment used by the Nevada
Conservation Corps, and hold employees accountable for lost or broken equipment.
•    Repair tools and equipment when needed and feasible.
•    Implement a system for tracking tool checkout and return.
•    Communicating regularly with Tool Managers and ensuring that crews are
held accountable for improper maintenance and/or abuse of tools and equipment.
•    Support GBI’s program equipment needs statewide including the Research
Associate Program, Nevada Conservation Corps, and Field Studies programs.
•    Coordinate the maintenance of GBI’s various facilities including
occasional light maintenance without the help of contractors.
•    Follow and enforce policies detailed in GBI employee handbook.
•    Other duties as assigned.

Compensation:
o    Salary Range: $30,000 to 33,000 DOE
o    Paid Health/Dental Coverage

o    401k Plan Option

Timeline:
o Start Date: January 9, 2012
o Full time; a minimum of 40 hours per week
o Available to work a varied schedule, including some weekends

Location:
o Reno, NV

Qualifications:
o    Experience operating hand tools, chainsaws, generators, and other tools
related to conservation projects;
o    Training and educational background in small engine repair;
o    Experience with fleet and tool management is desired;
o    Experience with spreadsheet and database software;
o    Ability to multi-task and troubleshoot on a daily basis;
o    Ability to communicate effectively, both written and orally, with a
diverse audience;
o    Strongly developed organizational skills and ability to self-motivate;
o    Ability to train others in troubleshooting tool and vehicle issues;
o    Ability to lift up to 50 pounds for extended periods of time;
o    Occasional field time and camping may be required;
o    Valid state-issued driver’s license and familiarity driving 4WD
vehicles on pavement and off-road.
