12-02-03 -  64004 Natural Resource Officer, Marine & Environmental Affairs:  
Position is responsible for inspection and enforcement work to ensure 
compliance with laws and regulations pertaining to the preservation and use 
of the town’s natural resources.  Duties include patrolling conservation 
land, beaches, and waterways to determine their environmental condition; 
inspecting the activities of individuals using natural resources for 
recreational or other purposes to ensure compliance with laws and 
regulations; and providing for the overall maintenance of the town’s natural 
resources; all other related work as required.  Bachelor of Science Degree 
in Environmental Science or related field.  Two years of experience in 
Resource Management, enforcement, or similar activities or any equivalent 
combination of education and experience.  Certification in First Responder 
and CPR.  Massachusetts Driver’s License.  Ability to obtain Massachusetts 
Criminal Justice Training Council Reserve Officer Certificate.  Working 
knowledge of environmental and public safety laws and the techniques of 
environmental management.  Knowledge of coastal zone management.  Knowledge 
of wildlife population dynamics and management.  Knowledge of principles of 
scientific research and natural sciences.  Knowledge of state and local 
wetlands protection laws and regulations.  Ability to occasionally perform 
strenuous physical effort and to work under adverse weather conditions.  
Ability to interact with the public to establish and promote good public 
relations and enforce regulations.  Ability to understand and give written 
and oral instruction.  Ability to exercise independent judgment and 
discretion when necessary.  Ability to operate off road vehicles, A.T.V.’s, 
audiovisual equipment, radio equipment and rescue equipment.  Ability to 
conduct presentations and to teach environmental topics to people from 
diverse backgrounds and age groups.  Ability to safely operate small boats 
in all but severe weather conditions.  Proficiency in the use of computers 
including word processing, spreadsheets and data base. Good interpersonal 
and communication skills to explain and enforce laws and regulations.  
$931.92 weekly + benefits  Open to Town of Barnstable Employees through 
3/2/12 and to the Public through 3/6/12.   This is a permanent position.
