Detailed job description:
Provides technical and intellectual assistance to a Ph.D. dissertation
research project examining physical and biological characteristics driving
largemouth bass recruitment variability in Ohio reservoirs; participates in
research of the Aquatic Ecology Lab; conducts field sampling of plankton,
aquatic invertebrate, and fish using a variety of techniques; analyzes
samples and data; performs age determination of otoliths, larval diet work,
calculates egg survival, train and supervise assistant technician in sample
processing; maintains equipment and lab; analyzes data using various
software programs; contributes to the development of the project and the
lab; assists with administrative duties associated with a research project
including purchasing research supplies, photocopying, drive motor vehicles,
and preparing correspondence as needed.  

Duty Pct        Duty Description

60%     performs age determination from scales and otoliths, processes larval
diets; processes aquatic invertebrate samples; maintains equipment and lab;
train and supervise assistant technician in sample processing
20%     collects field samples of fish and ichthyoplankton, and water quality
using a variety of techniques;
20%     analyzes data using various software programs; contributes to the
development of the project and the lab; assists with administrative duties
associated with a research project including purchasing research supplies,
photocopying, drive motor vehicles, and preparing correspondence as needed;

Min. education required: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education/experience
#1 major: General Biology  #2 major: Natural Resources



Experience:
A bachelor’s degree in ecology, fisheries/wildlife, or other biological
science or an equivalent combination of education and experience required;
experience with research, field work, laboratory techniques, microscopy,
fisheries age and growth techniques, processing ichthyoplankton and
zooplankton, and boating preferred; working knowledge of GIS or side-scan
sonar technology also desirable.
