Assistant Professor
Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Aquaculture
College of Forest Resources, Mississippi State University

POSITION:       Assistant Professor of Wildlife Ecology and Management,
with an expertise in vertebrate ecology.

The Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Aquaculture, Mississippi State
University (MSU), is seeking applications for either a 9-month or a
12-month (choice of selected candidate), tenure-track faculty position
at the Assistant Professor rank.  This person will be involved in
research, teaching, and service.
  
LOCATION:       This position is on the MSU campus, located in
Starkville, Mississippi.  A description of the College of Forest
Resources (CFR), the Forest and Wildlife Research Center (FWRC), and the
Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Aquaculture can be found at

STARTING:       July 1, 2012, or as negotiated.

REVIEW: Review of applicants will begin April 1, 2012 and continue until
a suitable applicant is identified.

RESPONSIBILITIES:       Teach 2 undergraduate courses annually
(Herpetology, Ornithology), and Mammalogy on alternate years.  Develop a
rigorous, extramurally-funded research program involving vertebrate
ecology complimentary to the Department's faculty.  Support the
land-grant mission of MSU.  Work collaboratively with faculty within the
CFR and FWRC at Mississippi State University and elsewhere as
appropriate. This is a teaching-heavy faculty position (50%).  

QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. (degree conferred is preferable) with expertise in
wildlife ecology, vertebrate ecology, population biology, or a related
discipline.  Candidates should have demonstrated skills in vertebrate
ecology at the individual, population, and/or community level.  We
expect excellence in teaching, a commitment to grant writing,
facilitation of graduate students, publication of peer-reviewed
literature, and a commitment to service.  

BACKGROUND:     The Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Aquaculture is
nationally recognized for its applied graduate research and
undergraduate education programs.  The Department has 32 faculty
affiliated with the FWRC, CFR, Mississippi Agricultural & Forestry
Experiment Station, MSU Extension Service, and/or Mississippi
Cooperative Fish & Wildlife Research Unit.    

SALARY: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
