We want you for Science Education Outreach. Blow stuff up, freeze stuff,
play with powerful lasers and high voltage, and generally convince people
that the world is a great toy!

About the Company
Based in University City, Philadelphia (with a second growing office in the
NYC metro area of Northern NJ), Wondergy develops and presents educational
and entertaining science programs that get kids and adults excited about
learning and the workings of the world around them. For more information
about us and what we do, check out our website - www.wondergy.com. If you
like what you see, come help us change someone's worldview - and in turn the
whole world!

For over 10 years, most of our shows and events were in the Mid-Atlantic US,
centered in Philadelphia, with occasional tours in New England, Japan, and
India. Now, we’re ready for a cross-country USA science tour. Are you?

About the Position

Wondergy Scientist
- You'll present interactive science educational programs at schools and
venues across the country
- Your job is to guide hands-on science exploration; encourage questioning
and discovery
- You get to play with liquid nitrogen, lasers, and professional
skateboarders, and more
- You'll help build, develop, or maintain props, teaching tools, science
programs, and educational activities
- You will represent Wondergy and scientists to the public

Specific to the tours:
- See the country, one community at a time.
- School assemblies, mostly elementary schools
- Tour will be designed to minimize driving from school to school.
- Assemblies are Mon-Fri daytime shows (occasional rare exceptions), so
weekends are free to explore local communities.
- Approximately 10 shows per week
- Unless there is a holiday, you will be paid the same even if you are
scheduled for fewer than 10 shows.
- If you do more than 10 shows in a week, you will be paid extra

- You will be trained by Wondergy this summer, and present programs at
camps, libraries, and communities.
- Mid-September, we’ll send you on your way up the east coast
- Mid-academic year, you’ll head west, teaching along the way, for a west
coast tour which we expect to run through June.
- June through August, you’ll be welcomed back for summer shows in the
Northeast, or may take the summer off. (We’ll need to know that by
February, so we can plan.)

For the Skate Tour, you (as scientist) and a professional skateboarder will
travel together

For the Laser Tour, you will be paid to travel solo, although you are
welcome to travel with a friend

Qualifications of an Ideal Candidate:

- A university background in science is required, but experience with all of
our specific topics is not necessary; training will be provided. For Laser
and Skate, Physical Sciences or Engineering is ideal.
- Creative and able to improvise, not thrown off by audience questions. On
the contrary, you should welcome questions, ideas, and jokes!
- Comfortable in front of large audiences - performance or public speaking
experience a big plus
- Charismatic and passionate, with strong communication skills
- Able to articulate complex concepts in a simple yet accurate manner
- Teaching experience a plus
- Graduate, undergraduate, or graduated science, engineering, or education
major or minor strongly preferred
- Position is optionally available immediately for occasional festivals.
Summer availability is a must!
- Clean, valid drivers’ license.

How to Apply:

Interviews and auditions are being held in March and early April. If you're
interested, email us your resume and your availability for an interview ASAP.

Whether or not you have teaching experience, you should come to your
interview prepared to audition by giving a short (5-10 minute), kid-friendly
lesson on the science topic of your choosing. Teach us something really cool!

Note: We are also seeking help with local presentations, sales and
development. If you would like to help us build new programs, grants,
clients, and partnerships, please let us know! Sales are commission-based.
Grant and other work are on a part-time hourly basis, based on experience.
The best folks to propose and sell this stuff are our presenters. Come do both!
