Spend a summer in Lake Tahoe performing outdoor work in a beautiful setting!
Dispersed Recreation Technicians work with Forest Service staff to provide a
wide variety of services to the visiting public. Gain people management
experience while serving at one of the nation’s premiere visitor
destinations.   

Compensation:
This is an AmeriCorps position, and candidates will receive a living stipend
of $3,500 for the season. This is not an hourly wage or a salary and is paid
to members bi-monthly throughout the entire year. Upon completion of
AmeriCorps service, members shall receive an additional education award in
the amount of $1,468 that can be used for paying off student loans, or
paying tuition for a Title IV accredited college.

Timeline: June 15th, 2012– September 7th, 2012

Primary Scope of Responsibilities:
Contacting visitors to provide information about recreation opportunities,
regulations, current restrictions, and resource management practices in the area
Ensuring that recreation areas around the Lake Tahoe Basin are maintained
and serviced in accordance with standards.
Make safety checks of public areas and take corrective action when necessary.
Water system testing.
Performs routine custodial work at recreation sites throughout the Lake
Tahoe Basin.  Sites to be maintained include:
        Eagle Falls
        Echo Lake
        Big Meadow Trailhead
        Luther Overflow Campground
        Sawmill Pond
        Glen Alpine
        Chimney Beach and
        Secret Harbor among others

Qualifications:
High School education
Light carpentry and custodial skills
Proven ability to work with the public
California or Nevada Driver’s License with 1 ton rating

Work Environment:
The work is primarily outdoors. Must be able to perform a variety of routine
procedural tasks such as custodial work, light carpentry and painting.  Must
be able to be on your feet and for several hours a day.  Must be able to
lift heavy loads of up to 50 lbs.  Must be able to drive a 1 ton truck.  

Training:
On the Job training by the USFS. 

AmeriCorps Qualifications:
Meet AmeriCorps eligibility requirements: (1) U.S. citizenship or legal
resident alien status, (2) must be at least 17 years of age and a US citizen
that has received a high school diploma or GED (or be willing to achieve
this before using education award), (3) eligible to receive an AmeriCorps
Education Award (limit of four in a lifetime, or equivalent of two full-time
terms of service), and (4) pass National Sex Offender Public Registry
(NSOPR) and federal criminal background checks.
