Spend the season serving at the Forest Service Supervisor’s Office at
beautiful Lake Tahoe. Work alongside Forest Service staff to assist the
Special Uses program. This program manages recreation special uses such as
Heavenly Mountain Resort, Zephyr Cove Resort, Outfitters and Guides, events,
and Recreation Residences.  This is an excellent opportunity to advance your
reading, writing and critical thinking skills.  Gain people management and
conflict resolution experience while serving at one of the nation’s premiere
visitor destinations. 

Compensation:
This is an AmeriCorps position, and candidates will receive a living stipend
of $3,500 for the season. This is not an hourly wage or a salary and is paid
to members bi-monthly throughout the entire year. Upon completion of
AmeriCorps service, members shall receive an additional education award in
the amount of $1,468 that can be used for paying off student loans, or
paying tuition for a Title IV accredited college.

Timeline: June 15th, 2012– September 7th, 2012

Primary Scope of Responsibilities:
Manage use and occupancy of national forest lands by businesses and
organizations 
Conduct research and gather information that will strengthen the Forest
Service's ability to meet community needs for building safety and Special
Use Permitting 
Assist USFS staff with the monitoring of Special Use Permits
Coordinate, track and gather aquatic invasive species data from resorts
Monitor recreation events
Coordinate resource specialists reviews of permittees

Qualifications:
B.S. in ecology, natural resources sciences or other related degree.
Computer literacy, 
Proven ability to work with the public including customer service skills, and
State Driver’s license.

Work Environment:
The work is performed both indoors and outdoors.  Must be able to walk 3
miles without difficulty and sit at a computer for several hours a day. 
Outdoor conditions vary from wet and cold (30F) to hot and dry (80F). 


Training:
On the Job training by the USFS. 

AmeriCorps Qualifications:
Meet AmeriCorps eligibility requirements: (1) U.S. citizenship or legal
resident alien status, (2) must be at least 17 years of age and a US citizen
that has received a high school diploma or GED (or be willing to achieve
this before using education award), (3) eligible to receive an AmeriCorps
Education Award (limit of four in a lifetime, or equivalent of two full-time
terms of service), and (4) pass National Sex Offender Public Registry
(NSOPR) and federal criminal background checks.
