Basic duties -
The School of Anthropology seeks to hire a laboratory assistant for a
new lab facility that supports primate hormone research, primarily
using noninvasively collected samples from the wild, with enzyme
immunoassay analyses. The laboratory will operate one
spectrophotometer for assays, and solid phase extraction and celite
chromatography manifolds for extraction protocols.

The ideal candidate has expertise in standard laboratory safety
protocols; is well-organized with attention to detail; has strong
interpersonal and communication skills; has experience organizing data
and a lab, developing safety and training protocols; can train
students in basic laboratory methods and safety; and can prepare
solutions, media, and reagents. Experience with enzyme immunoassay
and/or spectrophotometry is particularly desirable. We encourage
candidates who will expand the lab's research portfolio by developing
new protocols and research projects. Lab expertise is preferred over field experience.

* Oversight of daily operations, including sample preparation and analysis, data quality control, and instrument troubleshooting.
* Supervise and train instrument users and student workers.
* Establish an organizational scheme for the lab, including lab safety protocols, glassware washing protocols, sample inventory, and data archiving.
* Organize supplies, materials, and equipment.
* Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and materials; follow
required safety and cleanliness procedures.
* Inventory stockroom supplies and equipment periodically to ensure proper stock levels are maintained; procure replacement stock
according to established procedure.
* Provide special storage and handling for certain items; determine method of storage, identification and location, considering such things as temperature, humidity, turnover, safety requirements, and
space needed.
* Operate laboratory equipment such as spectrophotometer, centrifuge, and analytical balance; make arrangements for major repairs to be
performed.
* Assist in training research/laboratory glassware attendants and/or students working in the laboratory. * Compile data and assist in routine preliminary analyses; maintain research data in lab notebook; write summary reports; report findings to investigator.

Qualifications -
Three years of related laboratory or research experience; OR, any
equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.
