At the Institute of Plant Sciences, Department of Biology, Faculty of
Science, University of Bern, a position as

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN ECOSYSTEM SERVICES, BIODIVERSITY, AND SUSTAINABLE
DEVELOPMENT

will open on 1 August 2013. The position will focus on causes and processes
of biodiversity change, relationships between biodiversity change and
ecosystem processes and services, as well as how negative anthropogenic
impacts on biodiversity and ecosystem services can be reduced, thereby
promoting sustainable development.

Candidates should have excellent and thematically as well as
methodologically (comparative, experimental) broad research experience in
the areas of ecosystem services, biodiversity, and sustainable development,
with first-class international publications. Moreover, candidates should not
only have experience in research, raising external research funds, and
teaching, but should also be skilled in disciplinary as well as inter- and
transdisciplinary collaboration in individual and cooperative projects.

Within the Biology Department, other groups at the Institute of Plant
Sciences (IPS) and the Institute of Ecology and Evolution (IEE) will offer
opportunities for close cooperation. The Institute of Geography (GIUB), the
Centre for Development and Environment (CDE), and the Oeschger Centre for
Climate Change Research will constitute further interesting partners.

In particular, the association of the position with the Centre for
Development and Environment (CDE) will entail close collaboration with
national and international projects, tasks in research and teaching within
CDE, and collaboration with further associated professors in Geography,
Social Anthropology, and Sociology.

Female candidates are explicitly encouraged to apply.

Your application (in English) should include a letter of motivation, your
CV, a list of publications, an overview of your teaching experience, copies
of your three most significant publications, a description of your current
research activities, and an outline of planned research (next 5 years).

Please submit the material preferentially by email (pdf or zip) no later
