U.S. Geological Survey is accepting applications for temporary Biological
Science Technicians for summer 2012.  Two positions are available, and the
duty location will be Flagstaff, AZ.  The salary will be (GS-4/5)
$13.41-$15.00 per hour.  The duration will be from approximately May 15
through mid-August, 2012.

Work will contribute to research project examining impact of forest
management treatments on stand-level resistance and resilience to weather
fluctuations. The biological science technicians will collect data to
quantify stand-level forest tree growth in managed forests. Duties will
include plant identification, tree measurement, increment core collection,
GPS and photo points collection, driving on poor and sometimes muddy roads,
collecting plant and/or soil samples, recording ecological data, and data
entry and compilation. The ideal candidate will have experience working in
forest ecosystems, particularly with collection and preparation of increment
cores.

Technicians will work independently and duties may include overnight travel.
The work involves long hours spent standing, bending, walking.  The
incumbent may be required to lift containers weighing up to 35 pounds.  Work
may include 10 -12 hours per day, and schedule will vary during the
employment term with weather and field conditions.
