Postdoctoral position on spatial structure of food webs and fish communities in a large river, the St. Lawrence (Québec)
A postdoctoral fellow is sought to work on a research program examining the spatial structure of the food web and fish communities of the St. Lawrence River (Québec, Canada). The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with G. Cabana (http://www.uqtr.ca/GREA/en/chercheurs.php?id=1) and M.A. Rodríguez (http://www.uqtr.ca/GREA/en/chercheurs.php?id=6) and will be responsible for the analysis and synthesis of a large, geo-referenced data set (quantitative trawl data on fish abundances, stable isotope ratios, and environmental variables) obtained from extensive surveys of the river. The position will provide ample opportunities for interaction with other members of the Research Centre for Watershed - Aquatic Ecosystem Interactions, which currently includes 10 faculty members in the fields of Aquatic Ecology and Physical Geography, as well as 40 M.Sc./Ph.D. students and postdoctoral fellows. A strong background in fish and trophic ecology, stable isotope ecology, and statistics is required; experience with programming and data analysis in the R environment as well as geospatial analysis will be considered a strong asset. The annual stipend is CAN $40,000 and the position may be renewed for one additional year. La candidate ou le candidat retenu travaillera en étroite collaboration avec G. Cabana (http://www.uqtr.ca/GREA/en/chercheurs.php?id=1) et M.A. Rodríguez (http://www.uqtr.ca/GREA/en/chercheurs.php?id=6) et sera responsable de lanalyse et de la synthèse dune grande banque de données géo-référencées (chalutage quantitatif et estimés dabondance de poissons, isotopes stables, et variables environnementales) obtenues lors de missions de recherches intensives menées sur le fleuve. Le poste permettra au post-doc dinteragir avec les autres membres du RIVE (Centre de Recherche sur les Interactions entre Écosystèmes Aquatiques et Bassins Versants), qui comprend 10 professeurs-chercheurs en écologie aquatique et géographie physique, ainsi que 40 étudiants de niveau M.Sc./Ph.D. et post-doctoral. Une solide formation en écologie des poissons et en écologie trophique et isotopique ainsi quen statistique est requise. De plus une expérience en programmation R et en géostatistique serait considérée comme un avantage.
