Description:

Seeking a Natural Resource Specialist to join the Natural Resource Management 
and Protection (NRMP) Branch of the Park Authority's Resource Management 
Division. Serves as a member of a four-person branch dedicated to natural 
resource management programs. Each member of the NRMP team plays a key role in 
meeting the natural resource needs of the Park Authority and promoting natural 
resource values agency-wide. Manages projects and programs, communicates with 
diverse audiences and participates on project teams. Performs a broad range of 
activities related to natural resource management including field work, public 
education, writing reports, managing budgets and advising on policy. Serves as 
the agency expert on non-native invasive species and their management. May 
supervise paid and volunteer staff as well as contractors.


Minimum
Qualifications:

Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to the 
graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in 
natural or life sciences, natural history, park management, education or a 
closely related field; plus two years of progressively responsible experience 
in conservation management, environmental education, interpretation, park 
programming or a closely related field.


Special
Requirements:

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal 
background check to the satisfaction of the employer. Must be able to travel on 
foot in rough terrain, which may include steep slopes, fallen trees and other 
obstacles, and standing and moving water. Must be able to work evening and/or 
weekend hours to attend meetings or to meet project obligations.


Preferred
Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess a unique combination of education, experience, 
skills and personality necessary to effectively manage projects and programs, 
communicate with diverse audiences and participate on project teams. Broad 
understanding of the use of herbicides and other invasive species control 
methods, early detection rapid response, related state and local laws, and 
monitoring and assessment techniques. Familiarity with or willingness to 
develop a firm understanding of vegetative communities and their restoration 
and management; land development plan review and project site inspection; state 
and local laws governing wildlife and public lands; and natural resource 
monitoring and assessment techniques.
Master's degree preferred (ecology, biological sciences, natural resources or 
related). Three years of relevant experience. Expertise in natural resource 
management (inventories, planning and project implementation) and invasive 
species management (identification, control and planning). Experience: managing 
contractors and supervising employees and interns; managing volunteer programs; 
performing field work; using Geographic Information Systems and Global 
Positioning Systems. Demonstrated communication skills (public speaking, 
interpretation, presentations and written materials) and ability to present 
complex information effectively to lay audiences. Detail-oriented and able to 
handle multiple tasks and shifting priorities. Ability to work both 
independently, with little direction, and as part of a team.
