NCC Crew Coordinator Description: The Nevada Conservation Corps, Las Vegas field office, seeks a Crew Coordinator for management and oversight of NCC southern Nevada field operations. NCC restoration crews work with land management agencies throughout the Southwest on projects including trail construction and maintenance, fuels reduction, invasive species eradication, habitat enhancement for native and endangered species of flora and fauna, illegal road decommissioning, and barrier construction. The Crew Coordinator works closely with NCC Crew Supervisors to provide necessary guidance, training, and support related to all field operations.The Crew Coordinator must also communicate with agency partners to acquire, and schedule, fee-for-service projects and define the scope of work for each project. The Crew Coordinator will work closely with NCC program staff and GBI administrative staff on administrative tasks including, but not limited to project invoicing, program and individual expense tracking, and project budget status updates and projections.
The Crew Coordinator will also work closely with GBIs Fleet and Facility Manager to effectively track and monitor all tools and equipment that are used by employees of the Great Basin Institute within the Las Vegas field office. This person will oversee all tool, equipment and vehicle maintenance and seek out professional help when necessary. This person will ensure that all repairs are completed in a timely manner and that all issues are documented and responded appropriately. The Crew Coordinator will also oversee the drivers training program for the Las Vegas field office and ensure that all drivers participate in the training. This position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, extensive knowledge of hand tool maintenance/repair, the ability to work within a budget, and extensive multi-tasking. Experience with small engine repair, vehicle troubleshooting, and databases are desired. Compensation and Timeline: August 6, 2012 (or earlier, upon availability) Rate of Pay: $35,000 - $39,000, DOE Eligible for health and dental benefits after 90-day probationary period Duties: Communicate regularly with agency partners via phone, written correspondence, and face to face visits to assure clear understanding of project scopes of work, their satisfaction with NCC crew performance and that NCC AmeriCorps members receive positive experience; Coordinate all logistical planning for crew projects including dates, type of work; Collect, review, and submit all NCC field crew weekly administrative paperwork to NCC Associate Director within assigned deadlines; Continuously review project agreement funding balances to ensure funds are available to cover planned work schedule; Supervise GBI Logistic Specialist, who is there to provide assistance with logistical tasks; Oversee and manage implementation of GBIs drivers training course; Communicate regularly with field staff supervisors/leaders and tool managers to assure that crews are held accountable for lost, improper maintenance and/or abuse of tools and equipment; Participate and lead routine meetings with NCC program staff, crew supervisors, leaders and members; In Coordination with NCC Associate Director and Training and Education Coordinator: Assist in the planning, coordination, and implementation of NCC program training events, including but not limited to AmeriCorps member orientation, chainsaw safety training, trail building training, and leadership training; Complete monthly project billing spreadsheets and submit to GBI financial department within assigned deadlines; Assist in operations and maintenance of field station; Recruit new agency partners to increase our project base in Southern Nevada and surrounding areas; Assist agency partners in drafting budgets and contracts reflecting project requirements, and assuring crews meet deliverables within; Follow and enforce policies detailed in GBI employee handbook; and Other duties as assigned. With the support of the GBI Logistic Specialist: Coordinate all logistical planning for crew projects including necessary equipment, and pertinent skills needed to complete the tasks safely and effectively; Ensure all GBI Las Vegas Field Office vehicle maintenance occurs on a regularly scheduled basis; Ensure all GBI Crew vehicle incidents, repairs, and maintenance are documented through spreadsheets and files; communicate details to GBI Support Staff; Repair tools and equipment when needed and feasible; utilize third party vendors to improve efficiency; Ensure all NCC and GBI logistical expenses are documented with receipts; and Maintain NCC program tool inventory and storage protocols.
