Marine Biology Research Technician

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will perform molecular analysis on marine organisms
including DNA extraction, polymerase chain reaction, DNA purification, and
DNA sequence analysis. The candidate will maintain a laboratory database and
information system. The candidate will be responsible for laboratory
management including sample curation, ordering, care of equipment,
maintenance of laboratory reagents, stocks, and general laboratory order.
The candidate must safely operate molecular biology apparatus such as but
not exclusive to autoclaves, centrifuges, thermocyclers, spectrophotometers,
fluorometers, electrophoresis equipment, and a DNA sequencer. The candidate
will coordinate activities of Graduate Student Assistants that relate to the
project.

Will interface with the Project Director and Graduate Student Assistants
assigned to the Project.

QUALIFICATIONS:

•       BA or BS in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Genetics, or 
related
science discipline, MS preferred.
•       2-4 years of experience with relevant molecular biology techniques,
including DNA extraction, polymerase chain reaction, next-generation DNA
sequencing, and DNA sequence analysis.
•       Ability to rapidly learn complex molecular biology protocols.
•       Leadership ability in a diverse workgroup of undergraduate and graduate
students.
•       Experience with Microsoft Excel and Access; experience with Geneious and
Python preferred.
•       Working knowledge of marine invertebrate zoology.
•       Field experience in marine biology or ecology.
•       References from 3 persons with knowledge of the candidate’s 
qualifications
and accomplishments.
