The Northcoast Marine Mammal Center in Crescent City, California, is looking
for one or two dedicated,
passionate fall interns to help with daily operations around the Center, as
well as marketing, fundraising and event planning.  The internships are
designed to give exceptional hands-on experience with all aspects of rescue and
rehabilitation of marine mammals, as well as give an inside look at how a small
non-profit organization works.  Interns will be required to assist with
animal care duties (feed preparations, medical charting, pen cleaning, wound
care) for all on-site pinnipeds.  In addition, interns will have the
opportunity to participate in marine mammal rescues throughout the NMMC’s
response area, which extends along 200 miles of rugged coastline in Northern
California.  Interns will also have the opportunity to assist with the
release of rehabilitated marine mammals.  Other duties may include
participation in training classes, data entry and tracking, maintaining rescue
equipment, and education/outreach activities at local schools and community
events.    Fall internships run from September through November.
Applications should be received by August 1st.

Intern Responsibilities & Qualifications:
The internships are open to all applicants 21 years of age or older, with an
avid interest in marine biology, zoology, general biology, policy or a related
field.  Internships are for a three month period.  Interns must be willing
to work long hours on a flexible and demanding schedule which may include
weekends, holidays, and irregular work hours.  Interns should be in good
physical health and have the ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.  A
successful candidate must also be able to work well with others under stressful
conditions.  Applicants should also demonstrate excellent communication
skills and have practical computer knowledge with programs such as Word,
Access, and Excel.  Prior experience in animal care and rescue are not
necessary, however fall intern applicants will ideally have some experience
with fundraising, business and marketing.
