We are recruiting for a full-time/permanent Conservation GIS Analyst 
position to be located in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS  
 The GIS Analyst will contribute to the conservation team by completing 
GIS analyses, building sophisticated GIS models and developing web-based 
GIS tools to direct the conservation actions of The Nature Conservancy and 
partners. S/he will compile, manage, analyze, and distribute data and 
results that help identify priority areas for conservation and restoration 
of forest and freshwater ecosystems within Pennsylvania. Her/his technical 
analyses will support programmatic decisions about effective approaches to 
addressing current or anticipated impacts to ecosystems caused by land 
use, energy development, water management, loss of habitat connectivity, 
pollution, climate change, and invasive species.  S/he will be conducting 
GIS analyses using the ArcGIS platform and will provide technical GIS 
support to TNC staff. This position is expected to lead development of web-
based GIS tools to help prioritize conservation areas with partners 
including the U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service, and other state 
and federal agencies and non-government organizations.  

Tasks related to this position will likely include:

Process spatial and/or relational datasets derived from cartographic and 
tabular source material. 
Develop computer simulation models in ArcGIS and/or other frameworks 
(e.g., R, Stella) 
Convert GIS data into an online tool, similar to:  maps.tnc.org/paenergy 
or forresttool.tnc.org 
Perform data analysis and produce written reports 
Build, maintain, and populate data and records databases and manual files 
Produce maps and/or other graphic products and reports 
Develop and maintain GIS library and/or database products library 
Assist with leading a series of informational meetings with NGO, state and 
federal partners 
 
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS  
 MS or BS degree and certification in related field and 3 years related 
experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
Experience with forest and aquatic ecology. 
Experience in analyzing data and producing reports.  
Experience producing maps and managing, maintaining and populating ArcGIS 
databases. 
Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Web browsers. 
Experience in web tool development. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

-MS or BS degree and certification in related field and 3-5 years related 
experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.  
-Ability to manipulate, analyze and interpret data. 
-Managing time and diverse activities under deadlines while delivering 
quality results. 
-Demonstrated experience operating GIS software and creating maps and/or 
managing other relational databases and creating other graphic products. 
-Demonstrated experience developing online tools, similar to: 
maps.tnc.org/paenergy or forresttool.tnc.org 
-Demonstrated database and computer-based management experience including 
managing, maintaining and populating databases and manual files. 
-Building, populating and producing written reports. 
-Managing and prioritizing tasks from multiple sources. 
-Working knowledge of common software applications (e.g.; Word, Access, 
Excel, Web browsers).  
-Communicating clearly in public via written, spoken and graphical means 
in English

SALARY INFORMATION  
 Starting salary range $37,500 - $40,000.
