Hello Colleagues,

Michelle Mack and I are co-convening a session at AGU this December
entitled: GC003: Altered Nutrient Cycling in High-Latitude Ecosystems
and wewould like to invite you to submit abstracts. Please forward
information
about our session to students and colleagues who may be
interested. Abstracts are due on August 8th, and can be submitted at:
http://agu-fm12.abstractcentral.com/. Please feel free to contact us with
questions. Apologies for cross-postings.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Michelle Mack and Kyle Whittinghill

GC003: Altered Nutrient Cycling in High-Latitude Ecosystems
http://fallmeeting.agu.org/2012/session-search/single/altered-nutrient-cycling-in-high-latitude-ecosystems/
Session Description:
Despite strong nutrient limitation at high-latitudes, less attention is
paid to climate change impacts on nutrient cycling than to direct effects
on carbon cycling. In addition to a potential source of nutrients with
permafrost thaw, climate change may alter disturbance regimes (i.e. fire),
hydrology (i.e. water tables), and vegetation communities (i.e. shrub
expansion). These factors influence nutrient inputs, cycling, and
transport. In this session, we propose to explore how changing climate
alters nutrient dynamics in permafrost-dominated ecosystems. We welcome
presentations on the cycling of N, P, and other nutrients, especially those
on disturbance effects, terrestrial-aquatic linkages, and growing season
controls on productivity.
