Description: A temporary worker is needed to perform in situ nest observations and install and monitor electronic surveillance equipment to document mortality events associated with the golden white-eye (Cleptornis marchei). Work includes providing general support for wildlife managers and avian ecology projects on the island of Saipan in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
Specific duties include: • Monitor nesting and mortality of golden white-eyes. • Install and maintain electronic surveillance equipment. • Organize, analyze, and synthesize field and electronic data. • Provide support for other avian ecology projects, as needed. Qualifications: Applicants with a four-year university degree in wildlife biology, ecology, conservation biology, or another closely related field are encouraged to apply. Preferred candidates will have experience with avian field research and/or wildlife monitoring, statistics, project and personnel management, working in multicultural communities, and good writing and communication skills. Working conditions are isolated and rugged, in a tropical environment with high heat and humidity and the potential for severe weather (typhoons). Eligibility: Only United States Citizens or legal U.S. residents can be considered for this position. This six-month term-limited position could be shortened or extended, based on the availability of funding and the needs of the program. Work begins December 1, 2012.
