A M.S. Graduate Assistantship in the Department of Biological Sciences is
available immediately at the University of Alabama for a highly motivated
student to work on a large interdisciplinary project at the Joseph Jones
Ecological Research Center. This project focuses on developing an
understanding of fire's impact on ecosystem carbon dynamics along a
natural moisture gradient in longleaf pine systems. The student will have
the opportunity to interact with scientists from the University of
Alabama, Joseph W. Jones Ecological Research Center, USDA Forest Service,
University of Edinburgh, and NEON Inc. A general knowledge of
photosynthetic equipment and soil respiration is advantageous; a strong
background in statistical analyses methods, such as time series analysis,
wavelet analysis, and/or data assimilation is necessary. This is a fully
funded teaching assistantship that includes: stipend, health insurance,
and tuition waiver. Interested students should send a copy of their CV,
statement of research interest, writing sample, and unofficial copy of
transcripts to Drs. Gregory Starr ([email protected]) and Christina
Staudhammer ([email protected]), or contact Dr. Starr for more details
([email protected] or 205-348-0556).
