PhD student opportunity in Land Use Effects on Water Quality using Remote
Sensing -- Department of Geography and Environmental Sustainability,
University of Oklahoma

Position Description:  The Landscape Land Use Change Institute (LLUCI) at
the University of Oklahoma seeks a PhD student to investigate “Land
management impacts on water quality in New Zealand Rivers.” A research
assistantship will be provided with competitive salary, research/travel
funds, tuition, and health insurance.

Qualifications: MA/MS in Geography, Natural Resources, Environmental
Sciences, or other Remote sensing-related science. Skills in: Remote sensing
analysis (ENVI / IDL), Geographic Information Systems, and Statistics are
desired.  The ideal candidate will also have knowledge of fluvial
geomorphology, watershed science, agricultural systems, or landscape ecology.

Responsibilities: The selected student will be responsible for: (1) MODIS
and Landsat imagery collection, processing and analysis; (2) collection and
analysis of water quality data and weather data from existing databases; and
(3) synthesis of the above data with socioeconomic and land use data
provided by consultants and agencies in New Zealand.  The student will spend
at least one month in New Zealand conducting fieldwork and meeting with
stakeholders.

Location: The University of Oklahoma is located in Norman, about 15 miles
south of Oklahoma City. Norman is a college town established in 1889 with a
current population of about 111,000 (about 25,000 college students). The
Carnegie Foundation classifies OU as a research university with "very high
research activity".
