hi Ecologgers- A graduate student colleague of mine asked me to post this to the list. Please respond directly to her: [email protected]
---- I’m a graduate student at Northern Arizona University studying forest bird nest predators in a high-elevation Hawaiian rainforest. After completing the first year of data collection, I determined that nest predators cause at least half of the failures in the study, and possibly more. Many nests which failed were empty when viewed with a peeper camera shortly after failure, but left the nest relatively undisturbed. In Hawaii, it is likely that the nest predator is most often Rattus rattus, but I would like to document this and discover any other potential predators. I’d like to put some cameras on these nests next year to determine 1- who are the nest predators? ; and 2-what is happening to these nests which are empty after failure. However, I have no funding for these cameras. I am actively applying for grants, but I have higher priority items to fund, and grant money is not guaranteed. So, I am requesting your help! Is there anyone out there willing to loan any number of camera traps that are capable of taking pictures at night? If so, please let me know. Or, if you have cameras that you no longer need and would like to sell them for a very modest price, please let me know. Thank you so much for your consideration! Cheers Ruby --- Thanks, Cali
