We have an expedition that is headed to the Kohala Range, and particularly
the routes our team is going into, are completely unexplored and very
likely hide flora that have never been seen or previously thought extinct.

Our team has volunteered to collect data for you on their journey.

Please let us know if there are any needs in this area whether flora,
fauna, or otherwise. We expect the team to be exploring canyons between
now and late April.

You can see some photos from initial scouting expeditions to the area taken
just last week.

This expedition is aimed at documenting and exploring the many creeks that
drain the eastern flank of Mauna Kea as well as Mount Kohala on the Island
of Hawaii. A majority of these creeks have cut deep canyons that have
extremely difficult access due to a number of logistical issues. Many of
the creeks have formed deep gorges with small pockets of habitat that have
been isolated from the surrounding environment, cut off by deep and narrow
canyon walls with significant elevation drops in the creeks. Many of these
'hanging habitats' have yet to been touched by the human hand and have
shown no signs of previous travel.
