Invertebrate Ecologist Position The Department of Biology at James Madison University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the ASSISTANT PROFESSOR level, beginning August 2013. A Ph.D. is required, as well as evidence of a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and to establishing an active, externally supported research program involving undergraduates and master’s level students. The position will support the B.S. and M.S. degrees in Biology, particularly the undergraduate concentration in Ecology and Environmental Biology. Preference will be given to candidates with a focus on field ecology.
Teaching responsibilities include our Ecology and Evolution core course and upper-division/graduate courses in ecology, invertebrate biology, or evolutionary biology. About the Department The Biology Department at James Madison University offers a Concentration within the Biology Major for students with interests in Ecology, Field Biology, Natural Resources, Environmental Biology, Conservation Biology, Evolution, Animal Behavior, and Organismal Biology. The Biology Department currently serves over 900 undergraduate majors and 15 master’s students. It offers a wide variety of courses for biology majors, general education, and pre-health profession majors, including a 4-semester lab-intensive core curriculum. Interdisciplinary connections in teaching and research are encouraged and supported. The 42 full time faculty members are engaged in teaching and research in a broad range of sub disciplines. We mentor over 150 undergraduate student researchers during the academic year and in the summer, using support from external or internal funds.
