The Division of Biology at Kansas State University invites applications for
a tenure-track faculty position in Microbial Ecology at the level of
Assistant Professor, beginning in the 2013-2014 academic year. We seek
candidates addressing cutting-edge questions in microbial ecology using
modern methods (molecular and otherwise) with a focus on the effects of
Bacteria and/or Archaea on ecological processes. Potential areas of study
include, but are not limited to, microbial community structure and function,
controls of biogeochemical processes, microbial food web interactions,
and/or microbial responses to environmental change. Candidates should
complement existing strengths in the Division of Biology
(www.ksu.edu/biology), and be able to contribute to collaborative
initiatives such as the Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) program at
Konza Prairie (www.konza.ksu.edu <http://www.konza.ksu.edu/> ) and the
Ecological Genomics Institute (www.ecogen.ksu.edu).

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence
in scholarship, and will be expected to develop an independent
extramurally-funded research program in his/her area of expertise, to
contribute collaboratively to interdisciplinary research programs as
appropriate, and to participate in teaching and mentoring a diverse
population of undergraduate and graduate students. Minimum requirements
include a Ph.D. or equivalent at the time of appointment, and post-doctoral

The Division of Biology includes a large, diverse and collegial faculty with
an excellent record of research and teaching. Extramural research funding
in the Division averages approximately $10M per year. We have a broad
research program that includes numerous faculty scientists with research
interests in ecology, microbiology and related disciplines. The Division is
also home to an internationally-recognized program in grassland ecology,
centered on the Konza Prairie Biological Station, a 3,487-ha grassland
research site supported by the National Science Foundation's LTER program
and other sources (www.konza.ksu.edu). Kansas State University is located in
the city of Manhattan (www.ci.manhattan.ks.us), a dynamic college community
