The Department of Natural Sciences at the Oregon Institute of Technology (Oregon Tech) is accepting applications for a full-time, tenure-track, 9-month faculty position in biology-ecology at the rank of Assistant Professor. Start date will be September 2013. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Oregon Tech's faculty salaries are competitive with our comparator institutions.

This position will focus on instruction of introductory biology courses that directly support B.S. programs in Biology-Health Sciences and Environmental Sciences, and will contribute to a new track in Biological Resources within the B.S. Environmental Sciences program, thereby complementing existing strengths in watershed science, GIS, and sustainable technologies.

Ideal candidates would have Ph.D.'s in biology, ecology, or environmental sciences with specialties in terrestrial or wildlife ecology, wetland science, biogeography, botany, and/or ecological sustainability, as well as established records of undergraduate teaching effectiveness. In addition to introductory courses in biology, teaching responsibilities may include upper-division courses in general ecology, botany, evolutionary biology, environmental data analysis, and/or possible electives in the candidates' areas of specialty. This position is expected to support and further develop external partnerships with agencies, firms and organizations that provide opportunities for student research projects. Experience developing collaborative, extramurally funded projects that involve undergraduate research is desirable. A demonstrated ability integrating GIS/remote sensing datasets with biological field surveys is also a plus.

Founded in Klamath Falls in 1947, Oregon Tech is the only public institute of technology in the U.S. Pacific Northwest, and is one of seven members of the Oregon University System. With an enrollment of approximately 4,000 students, Oregon Tech provides hands-on degree programs in engineering and health technologies, management, communications, and applied sciences. Oregon Tech is recognized as a national leader in sustainable technology and is registered as a Charter Participant in the Sustainability, Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS) administered by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). This position is located at the main campus in Klamath Falls, a small city nestled in the Eastern Cascade foothills that is widely recognized for its remarkable mountain and lake scenery, outdoor recreation opportunities, geothermal resources, and livability. Crater Lake National Park, Lava Beds National Monument, and Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument are each about an hour's drive from campus, and encompass an array of geologic settings, biodiversity, and field research opportunities.

Screening of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. To apply, submit a cover letter, curriculum vita, statement of teaching interests and philosophy, the names, email addresses and phone numbers of three references, and copies of degree-related transcripts electronically to [email protected]. Requisition 11-66006. Application material may also be mailed to Oregon Tech Office of Human Resources, 3201 Campus Drive, Klamath Falls, OR 97601 or faxed to (541) 851-5200.
