Hello Ecologgers – I have the opportunity to propose a major equipment purchase
for an undergraduate Environmental Science lab course that I teach. I am
leaning toward equipment that would let my students conduct some air quality
measurements – ozone, SO2, NOx, CO, particulates, etc. Lab assignments could be
designed around environmental justice, urban-rural gradients, or point sources
such as landfills, power plants, etc.

Does anyone have any experience with portable meters that could be used to do
this kind of sampling? It would ideally be something that we could take in the
field, that undergraduates could operate, and that a non-chemist instructor
(=me) :) could maintain. I assume that State and Federal environmental quality
inspectors use these kinds of things, but I don't know where to start to gather
information.

Any help that anyone can provide, or even completely different suggestions,
would be welcome.

-Jeff
