The Global Change and Watershed Biogeochemistry Lab at Washington State
University seeks a part-time field technician to assist with a US Army Corps
of Engineers-funded study examining greenhouse gas emissions from Pacific
Northwest reservoirs. The primary duties of the individual in this position
will include collection and processing of biogeochemical samples from
regional reservoirs, preparing, maintaining, and calibrating field equipment
and supplies, and, in general, assisting with research coordination and
implementation. During intensive field campaigns, the technician will assist
in water and gas sample collection and equipment deployment- most of which
is conducted via a small motorboat. While there will be some opportunity for
training on laboratory equipment in Vancouver, WA, the majority of field
work will occur at reservoirs in southern Oregon. An applicant based in
southern OR is preferred, though candidates based out of Vancouver WA or
Portland OR will also be considered.

Applicants should have experience with field research, a background in
biogeochemistry, aquatic ecology, or other related field, and should be
capable of working long-hours in adverse weather conditions and around
boats. Additionally, applicants should enjoy and be prepared for camping in
places with limited amenities, which may be required during frequent
overnight trips.

This is a part-time, temporary position. The rate of compensation will be
commensurate with the experience of the successful applicant. The position
will start in May and continue until mid-November, 2013. The work schedule
will average ~20 hours per week but will vary according to the research
schedule with several weeks of quite intensive work, and some weeks with <8
hours of work. Depending on interest and experience, the research technician
will have the opportunity to plan and implement an independent field project
relevant to the larger study.

To apply, please email a resume, letter of interest, and the names and
contact information of three professional references to Bridget Deemer
([email protected]). Applications received by January 15th, 2013,
will receive full consideration.
