Fauna Forever (FF) is a not-for-profit organization based out of the jungle
city of Puerto Maldonado in the Amazon rainforests of South-eastern Peru.
The organisation, which traces its origins back to 1997, works to promote
biodiversity conservation, the sustainable use of tropical forest resources,
and the continued flow of vital ecosystem services from Peru’s wild nature -
for the benefit of all. It leads and supports pure and applied environmental
and socio-economic research projects, training workshops, volunteer and
intern programs, and forest conservation initiatives with the aim of
benefiting State- and private-led protected areas, local families and
communities involved in rational use of natural resources, tour guides,
scientists, policy-makers, and the public at large – by documenting our
understanding of the changing state of wild nature, the benefits and impacts
of human activities, and helping to spread knowledge about the Amazon
rainforest ecosystem.

Fauna Forever currently manages a long-term wildlife monitoring project
specialising in mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles, insects, and trees. We
offer the opportunity for undergraduate- and masters-level students to
undertake their thesis field work on topics related to our core aims ; and
also offer inexperienced volunteers the opportunity to get into tropical
wildlife research and conservation with full supervision provided by our
field research coordinators.

We are currently seeking volunteer field assistants and interns who wish to
join our Primate Team from June 2013. We offer a number of “mini-projects”
that can be undertaken by one or two people, with guidance and supervision
from our Primate field research coordinator. Candidates are also welcome to
propose their own primate project. Field activities will include primate
transects, following focal primate groups recording behavioural and home-
range data, vegetation sampling, and data entry.

Due to a shortage of central funds within the NGO, we require all interns
and volunteers to pay their own costs while on the project. Through our
experience we have summed this into a straightforward daily rate which
includes all associated costs with in-field work, including terrestrial and
boat transport to and from field sites, accommodation (2 people sharing in
bungalow with private bathroom), 3 large and healthy meals a day, clean
drinking water at all times, use of project and lodge equipment (kayaks,
climbing gear, etc.), and of course the necessary training and supervision
(max 3 interns per field coordinator + higer supervision by Dr Chris
Kirkby).

Fee per day:
• 30 days - US$ 70
• 60 days - US$ 55
• 90 days - US$ 50
• 120 days - US$ 45
• 150+ days - US$ 40

Please Note: For other durations (e.g. 45 days) we apply a pro-rata system
to determine the final fee. **This pro-rata system does NOT apply for
periods longer than 150 days (5 months). For special requirements, requiring
services other than our regular capabilities, an additional fee may be
required to cover this.

PLEASE NOTE:

What the fee includes
