students in the S.E. US. This will be the 10th anniversary of SEEC which is a 
student run student attended conference. We will have some travel awards, 
presentation awards, and a silent auction that already has over $3000 worth of

               A 200 word abstract must be submitted no later than February 1st 
2013 at 5pm EST.  Submissions can be made at

No late abstracts will be accepted.

  *    Poster presenters should plan to use a 36"x48" landscape format poster 
and be prepared to present their poster to judges from 4-5:30pm on Saturday of 
the conference.

  *   Oral presenters should create a 12 minute powerpoint presentation on a 
windows compatible USB storage device, presentations should be loaded with the 
session chair at least 30 minutes prior to the beginning of a session.  
Question time of three minutes will follow all presentations.

  *   Cash prizes will be awarded in four categories, undergraduate poster, 
undergraduate talk, graduate poster, and graduate talk.

Student Travel Awards


              The South Atlantic Chapter of the Society of Wetland Scientists 
(SWS) offers it's student travel award to support students presenting wetland 
research at theSoutheastern Ecology and Evolution Conference (SEEC) at the 
University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida, March 1 - March 3, 2013. We 
will award two students each with a student SWS membership and a $100 travel 
award. All students (undergraduate, graduate, and post doctoral) presenting 
research on a wetland topic via oral or poster presentation are eligible. The 
Chapter's Awards and Executive Committees will judge the applicants based on 
the scientific quality and importance of their research as described in the 
abstract. To apply, please submit your abstract as instructed on the SEEC 2013 
Registration and Abstract Submission webpage no later than February 1, 2013. In 
addition, applicants must submit their abstract, by email, to David E. Bailey, 
Awards Committee Chair, at

than February 18, 2013. (Please note that if the student does not send an 
additional abstract to David E. Bailey no later than February 18, 2013, they 
will not win a travel award.)  Winners will receive their awards from a SAC 
representative during the SEEC Awards Ceremony.

Social Update

                In addition to presentations and speakers, SEEC is offering a 
number of fun networking opportunities during the three day event.

  *   Friday night, a Biology trivia session at a local restaurant will be 
offered that will pit universities against each other in a race for prizes.



  *   Saturday night, following presentations, we will head to a restaurant and 
bar on the beautiful UCF campus where we will hold a banquet dinner and silent 
auction which will include a number of donated items from our sponsors

Final call for abstracts

               SEEC is a conference run by students for students and is being 
hosted at the University of Central Florida (UCF) on March 1st - 3rd of 2013.  
SEEC offers a friendly atmosphere for undergraduate, graduate, and post 
doctoral students from around the southeast to engage one another and solicit 
helpful critiques of their research. SEEC also gives students that are not 
presenting the opportunity to learn from others about giving a research 
presentation or poster.
               While anyone with an interest in ecology or evolution is welcome 
to attend SEEC, those planning on presenting posters or talks have an abstract 
submission deadline of February 1st 2013 at 5pm EST, that can be completed at 
the registration

               Our plenary speaker on Sunday morning will be Dr. Keith Hobson, 
a research scientist at the University of Saskatchewan and former editor of 
Waterbirds. Dr. Hobson's research focuses on the conservation of arboreal 
systems and how stable isotopes can be used to understand migratory patterns in 
various taxa.  His presentation is entitled:  "From birds to butterflies: using 
stable isotopes to track animal movement and migration".
               Lodging is being provided by the La Quinta Inn and Suites within 
the UCF Research Park.  SEEC has negotiated a special rate of $99/night based 
on 4 person occupancy that also includes breakfast.  This discount expires on
