Dear fellow ecologists,

Does anyone have experience using HOBO pendant data-loggers (UA-002-08 or
UA-002-64) outdoors below -20C? These units are only recommended for use
above that temperature--the reason being that the CR2032 batteries can
leak as a result of plastic warping below -20C. However, I've had them in
the field overwinter, where they were exposed to temperatures as low as -
26C (at least, that's what they recorded) for a few nights, without
apparent ill effects. I'm considering buying a bunch more of these, but
since they'd likely be exposed to similar conditions, I'm wondering if
anyone can either reassure me that they too will likely be OK, or else
advise me to buy something else.

I'm not hugely concerned about the level of measurement inaccuracy below -
20 (they might be off by ~1C); I'm just concerned about survival
afterward. I would like to retain the light-sensor feature, if possible.

Please respond to me off-list at [email protected]. I can compile and
post the responses, if there's interest.

Thanks!
