Below are two position descriptions to join cropping systems research
teams at Penn State.

1. Post-doctoral Research Associate

The selected candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team helping
to coordinate research and extension activities in a multi-state
integrated pest management project on cover crop-based organic
rotational no-till corn and soybean production in the Mid-Atlantic
region.  The incumbent will assist with soil, crop, and pest sampling,
conduct statistical analysis, write extension and scientific
publications, and contribute to other research dissemination
activities including presentations at field days and scientific
conferences. This position requires a recent PhD in Agronomy,
Agroecology, Weed Science, Entomology, or related field that has
equipped the applicant with the necessary knowledge, skills, and
abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
Experience with organic production of agronomic crops and graduate
student mentoring is desirable.

The position is funded for 18 months with the potential for continued

2. Graduate Research Assistant, Department of Plant Science or
Inter-College Degree Program in Ecology, Penn State University

Available:  Fall, 2013

Position Description:  Graduate Research Assistantship (M.S. or Ph.D.)
in Plant Science or Ecology.   Seeking an M.S. or Ph.D. student to
participate in a interdisciplinary project focused on sustainable
dairy cropping systems
(http://cropsoil.psu.edu/research/cropping-systems). Our overall goal
is to develop more sustainable reduced-tillage feed, forage, and fuel
production systems that integrate pest and soil management practices.
The graduate candidate will focus on integrated weed management that
reduces herbicide reliance, incorporates cover crops and other
cultural and mechanical weed control tactics.  In addition to
field-based research, there will be opportunities to develop and
deliver extension programs.

Qualifications: B.S. or M.S. degree in plant or soil science,
entomology, biological sciences, environmental sciences, ecology, or
other agriculture-related discipline.  Strong written and oral
communication skills necessary.  Minimum 3.0/4.0 GPA.  GRE test scores
are required.

Facilities:   The Department of Plant Science is one of 9 departments
in the College of Agricultural Sciences with a campus-wide student
body of about 45,000 full-time students. The Penn State University
Park Campus is located in State College in Central Pennsylvania.  The
